Kolekcja ssaków / Mammal collection (Instytut Biologii Ssaków PAN)
Naukowa Kolekcja Zoologiczna Instytutu Biologii Ssaków PAN w Białowieży jest jedną z największych kolekcji ssaków na świecie. Znajduje się w niej blisko 190 000 okazów należących do 88 dziko żyjących gatunków ssaków z obszaru Puszczy Białowieskiej i Polski oraz materiał porównawczy obejmujący 163 gatunki ssaków ze świata. W kolekcji przechowywane są czaszki, szkielety oraz wysuszone skóry ssaków. Cenną część zbiorów stanowią okazy lub narządy ssaków przechowywane w etanolu. Dynamicznie rozwijającą się w ostatnich latach częścią kolekcji jest bank tkanek ssaków, który zawiera ponad 20 tys. prób współczesnego i kopalnego materiału 66 gatunków ssaków do badań genetycznych, izotopowych i innych. Jedną z najcenniejszych części kolekcji jest największy na świecie zbiór czaszek i szkieletów żubra Bison bonasus – największego lądowego zwierzęcia Europy i przedstawiciela legendarnej megafauny.
